celebrating over 11 years of service!

Sigma Nu Beta, Incorporated was established by a group of women in search of something more. These women wanted more  than just popularity  amongst their peers. They decided that it was time for a change. The organization was founded on the principles of excellence, determination and discipline.
It is these principles which define a Sigma woman.

We, the Women of Sigma Nu Beta, Incorporated, would like to take this time to clear up any misconceptions about our organization. We were founded on July 21st, 2006. One of our Founders saw the lack of unity within the masculine lesbian community and thought it may be beneficial to bring about a change by creating Studs-N-Black (SNB). She reached out to other influential women in her community and as they began to formulate her idea, something greater came about. Our Founders are very familiar with greek life and Divine Nine organizations. They either have family members who have pledged or have attended and graduated HBCUs and other colleges and universities. With that being said, our Founders spent many hours, days and weeks to create something original and with purpose. They wanted masculine lesbians to have a viable option to gain a greek family. They wanted to educate and guide them through leadership, service and unity. Our community needed an organization like this, in part due to the homophobia that existed and still exists within most Divine Nine organizations. Just like the African-American community was excluded from White greek organizations…some of us have experienced the same or told we would have to “change” who we were to “fit” in! Our Founders decided to create a greek organization for masculine lesbians. With the original idea of Studs-N-Black, greek letters replaced and Sigma Nu Beta, Incorporated was born.

We were not created to be the “lesbian version” of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. There is nothing about our organization that mimics or emulates the Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. We can certainly see the similarity with one thing, our hand sign. We can admit that the hand sign may be a little close; the difference is our thumbs are extended out between the middle and ring finger to ensure that we didn't have the exact same sign. This is something we impress upon all members to do because we respect those that were created before us. We do not mimic any signature steps or calls. At the end of the day we pride ourselves on being authentic. There are only so many greek letters and so many steps, signs and calls that can be created. Either way, we make it a continued point to be as creative as possible. We have great working relationships with several members of Divine Nine organizations. So, we know some of the opinions being expressed against our organization DOES NOT reflect the sentiments of all D9 members. We respect all opinions but will not be bullied into denying our organization was founded on genuine ideals and principles. We have and will continue to be a viable option for like-minded individuals who also are masculine lesbians. We will continue to be here to support our members and educate others that just because you wear the clothing, you are not to be mistaken as a man. WE ARE THE WOMEN OF SIGMA NU BETA, INCORPORATED! We welcome any constructive and sophisticated inquires into our organization. You can email us at sigmanubetainc@gmail.com. Thank you.
